Accommodation in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe: How to Choose the Right Room (and What It Costs)

Searching for accommodation in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe can feel like standing at the edge of the gorge: lots of options, a long way down, and everyone telling you theirs is the best view. The trick is to work out what kind of trip you’re having first. Then the right room more or less picks itself.

Here’s a straightforward guide to the room types at iRock Lodge, who each one suits, and what it really costs per night.

First, decide what matters most

  • Budget: are you saving for activities like the Flight of Angels or a Chobe day trip?
  • Group size: a couple, a family or a group of friends travelling together?
  • Comfort: is air conditioning essential (it is in October)?
  • Setting: do you want to be in the middle of town, or somewhere quieter with views of the gorge?

Standard Rooms: from $90 a night

Our Standard Rooms are built for travellers who want comfort and value without paying for extras they won’t use. They sleep 2 (queen bed or two singles), have garden views, free Wi-Fi, a fan and an in-room safe. They’re ideal if you plan to spend your days out at the falls and your evenings resting.

Deluxe Suites: from $110 a night

Best Time to Visit Victoria Falls: A Month-by-Month Guide (Zimbabwe Side)

Victoria Falls doesn’t really have an off season, it just has moods. Some months it thunders so loudly you’ll feel it in your chest; other months it’s calm enough to see the rock it pours over. Either way, the best time to visit Victoria Falls depends on what you want from the trip: maximum drama, clear photos, fewer people, or a better deal.

Here’s a plain-English, month-by-month guide from our base on the Zimbabwe side, about 10 km from the falls.

The short answer

  • For the biggest, loudest flow: roughly March to May, when the Zambezi is at or near its peak.
  • For the best all-round views: roughly June to August, with strong flow, less blinding spray and dry, mild weather.
  • For low water, rock-face views and Devil’s Pool (Zambian side): roughly September to December.
  • For green landscapes, quieter viewpoints and better value: the rainy season, roughly November to March.

Victoria Falls through the year

January to March: green season and rising water

The summer rains turn the landscape lush and the river begins to rise. Expect warm days and afternoon thunderstorms that pass as quickly as they arrive. It’s a quieter time to visit, which usually makes it easier to find good-value accommodation.

April to May: peak flow (bring a raincoat)

This is when the falls are at their most powerful. The spray rises high above the gorge and can soak you at the viewpoints, so a light raincoat and a waterproof phone pouch are your best friends. The flip side: the spray can be so thick that it hides parts of the falls. On full-moon nights in high-water months, the spray can also produce a lunar rainbow, a “moonbow”.

June to August: the sweet spot

The dry season brings cool mornings and evenings, sunny days and a falls that is still full but no longer completely hidden by spray. It’s the most popular time to visit, so book rooms and activities early.

September to December: low water and big heat

As the river drops, you can see more of the basalt cliff face, especially on the Zambian side, and the Zimbabwe side keeps flowing. October is usually the hottest month. This is also the season when Devil’s Pool on the Zambian side usually opens, depending on water levels.

The best time for popular activities

  • Flight of Angels (helicopter over the falls): spectacular year-round. At high water you see the full spray plume; at low water you see the zigzag gorges clearly. You can book it right at the lodge. See our activities and tours.
  • Chobe day safari (Botswana): the dry season, roughly July to October, is classic game-viewing time as animals gather near the river.
  • Bungee jumping from the Victoria Falls Bridge: it runs year-round. The only seasonal variable is how loud you scream.

The best time to visit Victoria Falls on a budget

The rainy months tend to be quieter, and right now there’s a better reason to go: Book before 31 January 2027 and save 15%: Standard Rooms are $76.50 a night (normally $90), Deluxe Suites $93.50 (normally $110), Gorge View Chalets $102 (normally $120) and the whole Umhambi Villa — sleeping up to 10 — is $425 a night (normally $500).
